Nestled in the heart of Jamaica, NY, G's Homestyle Cooking offers an authentic Jamaican culinary experience that’s been delighting locals and visitors alike for over two decades. This vibrant Jamaican restaurant is a true haven for lovers of bold, comforting flavors steeped in tradition. From the moment you step in at 95-08 Sutphin Blvd, you can feel the warmth of a family-run spot where every dish tells a story of heritage and homestyle care.
The menu is a rich tapestry of Jamaica’s beloved classics, thoughtfully prepared to capture the essence of island cooking. Dive into the smoky, tender Jerk Chicken served with perfectly seasoned rice and peas, crunchy cabbage, and sweet, caramelized plantains—each bite bursting with layers of spice and sweetness. If you crave something heartier, their Oxtail with plantains and rice & peas offers a melt-in-your-mouth experience, cooked low and slow to achieve that signature rich glaze that defines true Jamaican oxtail.
For those seeking variety, G’s Homestyle Cooking also features delicious options like Curry Goat with white rice, Stewed chicken curry with rice and vegetables, and the popular Beef Patty and Coco Bread combo—a must-try for a perfect handheld treat. Their patties come in several flavors including spinach, chicken, beef, and vegetable, pairing beautifully with the soft, slightly sweet coco bread to create a satisfying snack or light meal.
Breakfast offerings are equally impressive and distinctive, featuring local favorites such as kidney stewed down in light gravy, codfish stir fry tossed with peppers and onions, and the hearty, soul-warming mackeral rundown. Each dish is crafted to evoke the flavors of a Jamaican morning, with the right balance of seasoning and freshness.
What truly sets G’s Homestyle apart are its homemade juices that provide a refreshing and authentic taste of the islands. The Carrot Ginger Juice —a vibrant blend featuring carrot, nutmeg, vanilla, and a spicy kick of ginger—is a standout praised by regulars for its perfect balance of sweetness and warmth. Similarly, the homemade pineapple ginger drink offers a tropical brightness that complements any savory meal wonderfully.
Customers appreciate the genuinely comforting atmosphere and the personal attention of the owner, who has fostered a welcoming and friendly environment. While some guests note that a few dishes lean towards mild spicing, there is a clear intention to cater to all palates, making the food accessible yet flavorful. Portions are generally generous and reasonably priced, making it an inviting spot for casual dining or a hearty family meal.
While a handful of reviews mention minor inconsistencies in cooking or sweetness levels—like the slightly sweet oxtail gravy or the sugary drinks—these do little to overshadow the overall experience of savoring authentic Jamaican flavors crafted with love and expertise. Whether you stop by for a quick lunch, a fulfilling dinner, or to indulge in nostalgic homestyle meals that remind you of Jamaica’s rich culinary roots, G’s Homestyle Cooking is a destination that promises warmth, soul, and genuine flavor in every bite.

Here my new way of trying out new restaurants, use an app for food “Too good to let go” Food is good. I haven’t been here for a long time. I been going to G’s for 20+ years. Amazing food. The owner is very nice. One of the lady staff need some lessons on costumer service.
First time trying this place out and I have to say that I really enjoy the drink but it was a bit too sweet. The sugar should be reduce since the pineapple is already sweet. I Will definitely order from here again. I also tried the curry goat and I really enjoyed it. 08/10/2023- $8 is too much for a small curry chicken with rice and peas. It’s just best to buy the large for $12. Small should be $6.
Met up with a friend here because we needed a central point to eat. Turned it to be a ok choice. Ordered a Jerk Chicken meal and an Oxtail meal. Both meals came with rice and peas, and fried plantains. The jerk sauce was ok but the cook of the chicken wasn't done well. The Oxtail was cooked good but the sauce too sweet. Overall it was just ok.
Delicious food, and friendly staff! My partner and I shared a Large-size Oxtail Meal (with peas and rice, vegetables, and plantains) and a Medium-size Jerk Chicken (meat only). The food was very flavorful and delicious!! The portions were generous, and prices were reasonable. Both dishes could have been a bit more spicy. They were quite mild, such that anyone could handle the heat. I would recommend trying this place, even if you don't tolerate spice well! If you aren't accustomed to eating meat cooked with the bones in, you are in for a treat. Eating around the bones takes some practice and attention, but the flavors are on another level.
Please go and try the Carrot Ginger Juice. It has carrot , nutmeg, vanilla, and a KICK of ginger . You will not be disappointed. I got the medium jerk chicken with cabbage and plantain too .
